Introduction
I’m a senior pursuing a Bachelor in Business Administration in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Information Technology and Social Responsibility. I’m originally from El Salvador and have been living in New York since 2004.
Background
I worked as a web designer for a small Public Relations firm back in El Salvador. One of my responsibilities was the design and deployment of a bimonthly online magazine for the textile industry in Central America, which covered the CAFTA negotiations and featured articles written by industry leaders.
Interests
Mechanical Trading Systems
Last year I started trading currencies on a small personal account. My approach was discretionary based mostly on technical analysis. Things went incredibly well during the first month, but then, the market took everything back. So, I’m back to the drawing board and focused on building a more systematic approach to trading, which involves money management algorithms and quantitative analysis.
Technological Progress
After reading The Age of Spiritual Machines by Ray Kurzweil, three years ago, I became very interested in technological progress and the future of humanity. The premise of the book is that computing power grows exponentially and eventually human-like intelligence will be reached. I’m not a big fan of science fiction, but enjoy reading about plausible futures given our current understanding of science.
New Media Blog
My blog for the Principles of New Media class can be accessed here.
Websites I like
- Humanity+ - A thought-provoking magazine and website which goal is to bring awareness to emerging technologies.
- LifeHacker - One of the blogs I subscribe to. They post tips about technology and productivity.
- Hulu.com - After discovering hulu.com I stopped watching cable. There are many TV shows listed on hulu, few of my favorites are The Colbert Report and The Daily Show.
