M-Commerce
M-Commerce is short for Mobile Commerce and first originated in 1997 in Finland. "Mobile Commerce is any transaction, involving the transfer of ownership or rights to use goods and services, which is initiated and/or completed by using mobile access to computer-mediated networks with the help of an electronic device" (Mobile Commerce - Wikipedia). Although mass usage of M-Commerce has been slow to catch on, mobile web users do expect M-Commerce to become more popular in the coming years.
Mobile Access To Information
According to research from Yahoo and Nielson, mobile shopping or accessing of such information is believed to increase to 73% in the categories of Entertainment Items & Content, Restaurants/Dining, and Digital Content for a Mobile Phone. The current mobile usage for each category is at 21%. The Entertainment and Dining category is expected to increase as users are more inclined to use their phone's GPS applications to find nearby attractions. Mobile Digital Content is expected to rise as more applications are created specifically for mobile phone use. Below are charts depicting Current Mobile Use, Future Mobile Use, and Current PC Use in each of the 3 categories (as of June 2010). In addition, the other chart shows Dining-Related Mobile Activities of US Mobile Internet Users (as of June 2010) (NewMedia TrendWatch).
